What I love about my love of them is that I found them by accidentally downloading "Black Metallic" - I was trying to find a song by the Chicago band Catherine, but got this one instead. It was insta-love from then on.

Black Metallic is my favorite by them, it's beautiful. Sounds like a love song for a black woman, but I heard it's for a car hahah. I'd much rather think it's for a black woman, the verses "I think of you when you're sleeping" and so on are intense.

I do, but mostly on a handful of their songs. Need to explore their catalogue more fully :)

Here's a new scrobbling first world problem that just came to me as I was listening to cat stevens (each time I think I'm done thinking about this, some new thing comes to mind), it in no way relates to the Shattering Squash's so I refrained from posting it in their shoutbox. Artists that retroactively change their names, do you have any point(s) of contention with such action?

It annoys me a lot when I have to split albums by the same artist across different names, yes - such as solo albums by Billy Corgan vs William Patrick Corgan.

Oh right, the multi moniker approach that some artists do. I do wonder when artists do this that come from big bands have to do so due to some contractual agreement with a major record label. My original thought was more in line when an act changes their name and tries to apply it to their catalogue (or streaming services do, by artist demand or otherwise). Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf and now there's a mess of old albums that people name under a multitude of variations (yusuf, cat stevens, cat stevens/yusuf, it goes one). Dixie Chicks changing to just Chicks. The list goes on. Your example, I agree, is very annoying but in those multi name release approaches, I'm more curious as to why artists do the name variations.

Yes, for me if I was going to listen to Cat Stevens I'd want to listen to his music as Cat Stevens, if that's how it was originally released. There's also bands that have "The" at the start but then for some albums, "The" is missing - and the albums were released in that way too, but on streaming services (for example) they are all under one version of the band's name). So if you're being a purist you'd have two different versions of the band name (but I can't bring myself to do that).

I'm on the same boat basically, think it's lame when there's an attempt to backtrack something that has already been completed. Future releases, whatever, put them under whatever name you fancy. The "the" situation is interesting, I wonder if it had to do with cataloging the music, I know years ago in some record stores around me, "T" would have all the "the" artist lumped together, so I wonder if that was a way to be filtered out of that, and make it easier for consumers to know where to look to find the artist. Randomly speculating but I like to ponder about silly things as such.

It's pretty funny when I hear from people who are the same age as my Last.fm library ;) I always wish had been able to start out at Last.fm earlier than I did, as well - I often think about all the music I listened to in high school that I wish I'd been able to keep a record of here!

I quite enjoyed it actually, yes. It didn't blow my mind but immediately added some songs to my liked tracks in Tidal so that's gotta be a good sign I figure

Hi! I just discovered Tumbleweed. Silver Lizard is a killer tune! See you have a thousand Tumbleweed scrobbles! Impressive! Do you have a favorite album by them? Thinking of trying to get a disc and wondering where to start.

Hi! I do have a fair few scrobbles for the Weed, it's true. Most of them are accumulated across a small number of songs and for me, at least, I don't really have an album of theirs that I love from start to finish. I would say that either Return to Earth or Galactaphonic are a good place to start. The singles Daddy Long Legs and Sundial are the songs I first heard by them and are two of the absolute classics by them. Galactaphonic I think is less "radio friendly" than Return to Earth. Hope that helps 😊

I agree, I like looking back at my listening history too. Sometimes I forget that I ever listened to a certain song or artist :P It also sometimes takes me a loooong time to listen to an artist for the first time that others have been listening to for decades. Thanks for visiting!

They've expanded, more than changed. I still like now what I liked back then but that doesn't always show in my top artists, albums, etc. One example though - about 10 or 11 years ago I had only just started to listen to Lacuna Coil and now they're in my top 2 artists. I'd say that my love of doom metal and post hardcore has expanded a lot too, where before it was mostly alt rock (which I do still love too). I've also got around to listening to bands that I never properly explored in their heydey, like Ash, Filter, Hum, Hopesfall, etc.

Hello! How are you? :) Well, if this counts as "a gig", this would be my top one from 2019: https://www.last.fm/festival/4498618+Pasadena+Daydream+Festival as for top album, well the one I listened to most was the "Stars Die" compilation from Porcupine Tree. I can't comment on top album that was released last year as I've been mostly acquiring older albums, not current ones ;)

I am great, just very busy with a growing family but still making time for music and gigs! Wow, great festival by the looks of it. I have travelled interstate for live music but never overseas; would have been amazing to check out the place as well. I have been also buying older albums but also getting new stuff from Mark Lanegan Band and The National for instance. I did really enjoy the new The National album; it took a while for me to listen through it properly but now it is in constant repeat. Going to see them next month here in town too which should be pretty great.

I'm really liking it. I think it helps if you're not hoping for them to recreate any of their old albums all over again ;) I keep listening to the album over and over, so I figure that means I must like it a lot! What about you?

Great way of putting it. I feel the same way.. if you look at their albums say, post Machina IMO.. as their own piece of work I find myself liking them more and more. I know Oceania and MTAE weren't that well recieved but I really liked those albums, I can't really compare them to 90s SP. Same with Shiny. I think it's a solid album, with a few really strong songs. Man I wish Marchin On was a single.. i think the hype was so much for this album bc of Iha being back in the fold as well. Shiny is good, but sometimes I wish BC would strip back the production a bit, like Ogilala. Now, that's an underrated gem.

I also liked Oceania & MTAE - I remember hearing Oceania for the first time (during that initial free stream they did for it) and being blown away, and then listening to it obsessively in the weeks afterward. MTAE also has some great songs on it, including some of my faves "Drum + Fife" and "One and All". I also love some of the songs that get more hate like "Dorian". I actually have not heard Ogilala all the way through yet, but I ordered it a few weeks ago & now I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Haven't been on here much since the changeover, but have been coming back a little more lately. Just wanted to see what you're playing, see if there is anything I can 'steal'. See the Young Guns have been getting some play. Great band. Looking forward to the new album, Echoes, Sept. 16th. Going to play some of your radio now. Take care!
