I'm fine Lance, even if I can't sleep because of bites of mosquitos...... This will be my last work week before my holydays. I'll stay here also this year, but I'm very organized to enjoy my summer..... many many books, garden, beaches and champagne.... I really hope I could really relax myself because lately I'm very tired and stressed because of my job..... well it's not a "new" thing for me :) Anyway my friend enjoy your time e have a glass of wine for me!

Travelling sounds so good, I miss it.. Are you on holiday? Having fun I hope! Thesis isn't progressing as much as it should actually, have to work harder and worry less if I want to finish it in time - am a master of last-minute saves though :P Thinking of helping immigrants get to know the Dutch language and culture, make them feel a bit more welcome, there are 'buddy' programmes. My bit of protest against this growing xenophobia - and I love languages and learning about other cultures. There's a hippieish side to me, yeah :) And I like the blues too, though most of what I know is 'bluesy' cross-over, so thanks! For a next recommendation, how about the amazing Dick Dale? Master of surf guitar, brought back to fame by Tarantino and The Black Eyed Peas, definitely worth a listen :) I'm getting into this Cali surf sound, Misirlou, Holiday In Cambodia - there's just something ridiculously cool about it. And Surfin' Bird of course, if you're at all into Family Guy :P

Hi, sorry for taking a bit longer. Hope you're well! So, how's Spotify? And sad news indeed, Amy Winehouse dying, poor girl.. though it was massively overshadowed here by news of the massacre in Norway :( Got me depressed with the state of the world.. Hoping to get involved in community service when the writing is over, do something at least. But first - it's time for another recommendation :) A 60s Dutch band this time, Shocking Blue, who became very famous with their song "Venus" that I guess you'll know (..I'm your fire and your desire ♫). Another brilliant one is maybe one of my favourite songs, "Love Buzz" (also covered by Nirvana). Since you're a fan of female rock vocals, I think you'll appreciate them :)

hey you shouldn't have said that.. There's nothing to thank for. We say what we feel, that's what we must say anyway. Thanx for that link by the way..)

Hello again, glad you like The Long Blondes! They were really cool, pity they quit - though the second album actually wasn't that good. But the first is still brilliant every time :) And Last.fm seems to be fixed now! Was quite a major thing that went wrong over the weekend, glad they managed to fix it and keep our beloved data safe! And my thesis is on translating the gerund in Virginia Woolf's book The Years, quite specific and rather a lot of work :P Not too fond of the grammar part that I still have to finish. I might still go to a festival in August, hopefully everything will work out before.. Any good festivals or concerts coming up where you're at? And thinking of good female vocals, I see you only listened to a couple of Regina Spektor songs? She did some fantastic stuff, especially on the earlier albums. Hope you're well!

No, unfortunately.. 2 great festivals I could've gone to last weekend but insufficient funds and a thesis to finish - that I didn't actually make any progress with. The deadline is in 2 weeks, it's going to be pretty stressful but I'm going to be so happy afterwards! Pity last.fm isn't working properly, tag radios make a great background when typing. :) I see you're giving Spotify a try, what do you think so far? And I can't actually be sure about your tastes and whether you already know them (library not working and all) but here's a first recommendation: the album 'Someone To Drive You Home' (2006) by The Long Blondes, a glammy English indie rock band. Female vocals, many 'retro' influences, very contagious songs (I think so). Let me know what you think :) Also, saw The Who's brilliant performance at Monterey Pop yesterday, wow!

I like the selection you're getting, represents my tastes pretty well I think. Might have to warn you about some heavier stuff that could come up, don't know if you're into digital hardcore ;) Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova did the film 'Once' (won an Oscar I think, for the title song) so you're right about that, love their harmonies and Glen's voice and intensity in general. Jungle By Night is a recent discovery of mine, trying new genres and giving more Dutch artists a chance :)

Thanks for the compliment :) I have a degree in English actually, want to be a translator among other things. And can listen to no stations at all, sadly.. Used to be a free service but they changed it, last.fm radio was my favourite part of the website - but I'm too much of a chart geek to ever abandon my profile ;) Doomed to pay sooner or later. And the meanest part is that our neighbours Germany and the UK actually get it all for free, damn Dutch copyright laws..

Haha, to get a comment on that journal entry after so long! Thanks :) Nice page you've got here, love the recommendations section, and there's an artist amount you can be proud of! And I don't think I could ever stop loving Tommy or The Who - though I still don't really know Quadrophenia, shame on me.. Somehow people seem to have grown up with either Tommy or Quadrophenia, rarely both? I hope my writing will have improved since the "I'm sooo addicted.. it's just so amazing!" of my 17-year-old self ;) Blogging about The Who would be a good idea regardless, an entry on exploring Quadrophenia perhaps? Hope you'll check back! I'll have to nose around that library of yours for sure :)
