I loved your shout on Genesis' "After The Ordeal"; "This was just prior to Phil sticking his wretched tentacles into the heart of the most heaviest, melodic and intelligent progressive bands to have ever land on planet earth." Spot on, I laughed!

Hey are the 'Last FM glitzes' fixed? Be cool to go catch some of the Dan's NYC shows, but they've sold out the best seats at $300 a pop; Perhaps if we go for a 3-day package and plead "hey, Walter, remember me? I'm the idiot who became your first scuba buddy? And likely first to spill!a beer on your regulator"! We'll get some brownie points with this approach, huh?

Thanks for the link. Does the channel include other bands/artists that are similar to Steely Dan's sound, or is it strictly for Steely Dan, Don and Walt? Also, I've known the Dan for only about a year, but I love their sound very much and I want to listen to similar bands. Any recommendations? Thanks. :D

Many places. I guess it depends on the time frame. Recently I haven't been anywhere different than usual though.

Thanks for breaking that down for me. So Waters took advantage of Syd's breakdown in your eyes? I do love Syd's solo stuff. "The Madcap Laughs" is amazing, and he was such a unique talent. Like most folks, the only Pink Floyd that I'm very familiar with is DSOTM, Wish you Were Here, and The Wall. The other PF stuff I've heard isn't nearly as, uh, inspired as that to my ears, but maybe I should try some more. I actually like stuff like Terrapin better than any of PF, so maybe I should get their early songs..

I have no doubt that I, along wih the multitude of Pink Floyd fans are eternally grateful that Roger Waters crystallized his musicianship by synthesizing and focusing his craftsmanship with Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. However, there is but one "crazy diamond" which shines on, that being Syd Barrett.

But let's not forget that it was the 2 original founding members (Richard Wright and Nick Mason,) along with Syd Barrett's replacement (David Gilmour) who collectively fired Roger Waters for his "repetitive, ceaseless subject matter;" which was/is mental illness, World War II and the English public educational system. i.e.: Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall. Ironically, Roger Waters wrote (to paraphrase) "Time," from DSOTM, which contains the aforementioned and the phrase, "...Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town, Waiting for someone or something to show you the way..." Looking at Pink Floyd from a parallax view, one could make the case that Waters was quite possibly and more obsessively insane (than his soulmate Syd Barrett;) albeit far more in "control."

Point being; DSOTM and Wish You Were Here were Roger Water's renaissance, love letter master works to Syd; however, upon Syd's departure from Pink Floyd in 1968, original founding member Richard Wright (all keyboards) single-handedly carried and nurtured Pink Floyd up until Roger Water's " awakening. Granted, if you measure Pink Floyd's success in "$$$" terms, then Roger Water's version of Pink Floyd is for you. However, if you measure a band's success by actively listening to their progressive evolution, (which theoretically and justifiably should lead to massive "$$$,") then, you owe it to yourself to listen to Obscured By Clouds, Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma.

First and foremost, Syd (founding member) Barrett was the unequivocal nucleus of "The" Pink Floyd from their collective, embryonic incarnation in 1964. From 1966, through (relatively) 1970, Roger Waters quietly and patiently evolved into one of music's most evocative and profound composers and recording studio producers. Quite simply, Roger Waters turned all of his pain, (negative energy) into positive energy; as a result of "losing" his (Waters) friend (Syd); while learning and mastering world-class recording techniques at Abbey Road Studios.
