I’m finding this place to be fun again in connecting with new music and sharing my love for that. That said every word of your bio is so true and breaks my heart just a little more each time I see it.

All your compiling of playlists wasn't in vain as you can now export them to spotify and apple music!

Noticed that songs I play on YouTube, etc. are not being scrobbled. Don't know why.

Wishing you a relaxing Sunday from Germany, how time flies... you utilize lastfm for >9 years already :-) ...You are one of the lastFM dinosaurs!... Looking back now - how did your "musical journey" form over this decade? ... Wishing all the best for your forthcoming **105k scrobbles milestone** ... How I came by here? ...lastfm shows you at #3 position in this weekly "Discovery Leaderboard" stats: last DOT fm/user/tobyz1/listening-report/week ...AND as #4 in the "Scrobble Leaderboard" charts! ... I am also twice in there ... It's nice to meet you

What kind of music do you listen to while you grout the bathtub and shower? Nothing seems to be working... :(

i just discovered a shout You posted years ago on Robbie Robertson's Ghost Dance Song Page: "his story, his way..." Great insight into the man's music, that You articulated in just a couple of words. Excellent

Hello John, Happy New Year! I hope you and yours are in good spirit after your father's tragic departure. My heart goes out to you, I remember well my family's first Christmas without Dad. I did actually respond to your previous shouts - well, months ago now ;) - in my shoutbox. You probably never had the chance to read it. That's the danger of hitting the reply-button on your own page. Keep up the good stuff, all the best to your family! Sara.

Hi John, a big hello from downunder! Happy to see you are still around. Bitterly disappointing what has happened to this site. The near total destruction of the social aspect being the primary goal of their 'updates'. I liked the global aspect of the site that allowed like minded people to connect through music across all the stupid divides that are created to limit humanity. I shared my email with a few before the crunch came fortunately and dropbox has helped us well as it is handy for text notes etc. I trust you are well my friend. Sorry to read of the passing of you folks, the world will recycle us all in time. A reminder that change is the only constant and that change is indifferent to our opinions. Be well, be happy. :)

John, go to archive.org and enter your name/profile URL: http://www.last.fm/user/johnTMcNeill , and use "The Way Back Machine." You can recover what you've posted; but alas the PURPOSE of what folk like you, and I, used this site for--piling the musings, life and thoughts of ourselves and others is forever RUINED and gone. CBS interactive, is decidedly not interactive, at all it seems. Why not polls and, I don't know, VOTES, to decide its fate if it was so inclined to throw away its future in one....as you said *POOF*. Egregious indeed, my friend. Namaste my good buddy!

Thanks Buddy. I'll check it out. Yeah- the interactive thing was really special, and we both used it. Nothing out there anymore like it that I know of. All those playlists were my source of great joy! And the wall was my outlet. Holler at me sometime! :)

Whatever... life goes on. There is music in the trees and the stars and in the smiles and laughter of people everywhere. Catch a glimpse of reality and find your OWN music. Namaste. Life is GOOD! :)

many people played my playlists- got a lot of comments over the years. Read my page , too. Hundreds, if not thousands. Made a difference to a lot of people, including me. Gone. :(

forgot about the tags- that's how I got started on the playlists. Tagged 'em then put them in a playlist. There were several ways to get at your music and just let it play for hours. :(

... and yeah- I used to live here. Very rarely check in now- just bums me out too much. But I can still play (some) of my top tracks with a little help from my friends. YouTube did not replace what I had, but it is at least not Soundcloud covers....I will never have what I had. I would have paid an arm and a leg to keep it, had I known what was happening. Wouldn't matter- every "update" just got worse. I am compiling some new playlists on Google and YouTube, but I don't have the time or inclination to spend the next 7 years replacing them all. I had 4 tracks, 8 tracks, LP (vinyl), cassettes, and CDs and was happy to listen to Lastfm most of the time because most of it was there. Routed through my computer to my home stereo- it sounded just FINE. I know there is Pandora and Spotify and several other similar alternatives, but none are anything near what we originally had here. CBS lost their mind pursuing the $$$$$ without a clue how to capitalize on what they already had. Sad.

I share your pain - and disdain for what Lastfm did. The playlists are visible, but not playable. The Groups can be found- I think- but you have to do some research. The wall is gone- I had 7 years of musings and interesting things to see and hear- *poof* gone. I had some of it copied to a Word document, but not nearly all. I was out of town for several months caring for my parents (dad died Aug. 2015 and mom Jan. 2016) and did not check in with Lastfm and was absolutely shocked and - frankly- depressed when I returned and saw what happened. Life goes on. But it ripped my heart out. Over 200 playlists. Gone.

replaced with the infamous 30 secs limitation, which they have also ditched now. Have you been able to recover your tags, groups, etc.? Those are the things I perhaps miss the most - apart from I think we can all agree on is our biggest grievance, THE WONDROUS WALL of unbridled creative imagination & freedom. To my right, instead of what used to be your wonderful musings, I now read: "Top Music Stories: 15 Actors You May Not Know Are Dead@Looper.com". HOW on earth could that possibly be related to ANY form of communal musical interest? I also came across a shout where a user expressed his fear of isolation connected to the growing disintegration and dissociation of the community which has now effectively separated usability from users. Why did they leave us with this hideous barren wasteland, why I ask you? :)

Sweet Lord, John, the commentary section of Youtube is a trainwreck, I don't know how you can stand it... :) Every time I find myself entangled, I always end up in tears, a disaster waiting to happen. Nothing like the good old sandbox of LFM. I haven't been logged on for ages, but, for some reason, today I was, and found myself curiously going through your shouts since they seem to mirror my own reflections. in my opinion, with the impaired functionality and horribly slick (read sterile) excuse of a reinvention with its retailored design 'never has so little information been conveyed in such a large space', LFM has regrettably turned into an malfunctioning, crippled and uninventive version of Facebook/Youtube/Any Random Streaming Site. Thanks to your friend Gvest (below), I was able to retrace my one surviving playlist. I say 'retrace' not recover, because there is precious little you can do with it. In Sweden, the free streaming service disappeared long ago, years before the change,

Hi John, good to hear from you. The site has successfully screwed itself with all the social aspects that made it worthwhile being removed. I am persisting with the idea that at some point they will realise the depth of the blunder they have made move to correct some of them. However as it is likely corporate psychopaths directing things the chances of this seem remote. This remoteness increases with each passing day since the implementation of this awful skin. On a brighter note I trust you are well and enjoying life. :)

I'm trying to see if there is anything left here to enjoy. MY wall is gone, and I don't know what else is functional. Miss my playlists terribly- and the folks I used to chat with and share music. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
