Well, that certainly depends on what you're looking for. I'm moving to Sweden right after Thanksgiving, so I've given this topic a whole lot of thought. Scandinavia has notoriously high tax rates to support their colossal social welfare systems. There is not enough sunlight in the winter and too much sun in the summer, very cloudy, and very cool, even in the summer--this is all thanks to the high latitudes. You make less money in Scandinavia than you would in America, because the wealth is distributed to everyone. On the other hand, a place like Sweden has an amazing culture of sharing (everything--the roads, the land, the wealth, food, etc.), an emphasis on the environment, on peace, and other non-conservative ideals which may interest you. I agree with you that the U.S. is in a pretty sorry state right now, so I'm leaving in pretty high spirits. I don't think I'll miss a whole lot, save my family, friends, and some food items like english muffins, candy apples, and slim jims.
