With Valentine's Day around the corner, what better way to kick off a weekly playlist with a bunch of songs dealing with matters of the heart. We're running the gauntlet here folks, from the sickly sweet, love's all puppy dogs and sunshine, to tracks that wil go great while you burn old love letters and photos, all the while polsihing the shotgun and polishing off a bottle whiskey.
Of special note: Eli Reed's "It's Easier" just breaks my damn heart every time I hear it. Dude's a modern day Wilson Pickett. Sometimes I wonder if this Boston native's "moved the island" and travelled back to the heyday of Motown. Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight" is the most romantic song ever written. There will be no arguments about this. I don't care if he's singing it about himself, while admiring himself shirtless in the mirror while slapping Nancy Reagan's backside. The tune is just that damn good. Jawbreaker's "Jinx Removing" is a pop punk masterpiece. I still remember getting so excited when receiving their live CD in the mail I fell down a flight of steps and nearly broke my ankle in my rush to get this in the stereo. This track opened the disc. Remember to say "Rabbit, Rabbit" before listening.
I'd never heard the Soviettes until earlier today, but tossed a couple tracks on here because I love this classic- Avengers style of early melodic punk. Great stuff. Danceable as all hell.
For those of you wondering, nothing gets me in the mood like Carnival music. Seriously, every time I hear "dootdootdoot-doodoodoo-doodoo" I just have to stop what I'm doing and get down for some romance. For that matter, you can take your fancy Victoria's Secret and stow it. Give me a lady in a squeaky rubber nose and floppy clown shoes any day.
Enjoy the songs, give me some feedback, and give me some reccomendations for future theme based playlists.
