hey matt, i have run into this band at a review website, and thought you might enjoy it - sons of aeron. they are not Christians, but the musicianship is pretty solid. oh, and the new shai hulud (if you've never given them a chance, it marks the return of Chad Gilbert as vox for the record) is great. and this is great news for a BTA fan like you are - saw this and immediately thought of you - Jason Wisdom and Alex Kenis are back together (http://www.indievisionmusic.com/2013/02/16/solamors-begins-kickstarter-campaign-2/) let me know what you think

I only managed to listen to this very album Transhuman and i was pretty impressed... When started to listen Lie Awake, it instantaneously got me... I like when a band mix calmness with a heavy, raw sound, so this album meets my preferencies. I can understand you) Working, studying, a neverending cycle) I'm pretty lazy so i realy kind of... I let myself spend lot's of time just doing nothing, but i hate that when this state comes)

Am i, hahah?)) I'm fine, thanx) And you? I hope you are doing great, man. I don't remember exactly, maybe you did, but two friends of mine have already recommended to me this band (one of them is one of the best friends of mine). So youre late! Just kidding)) He posted on my wall in russian they play a mixture of metalcore and melodic death metal and also that they sound "fairly nice". I think i will definitly check them out... By the way just wanted to tell you I liked the band Believer you've recommended me, they are awesome!

However, it's unfair to criticize their music for not being as cheerful as JRR's most triumphant, positive, or celebrative moments as they're a 'black metal' band. I used to think that there's no point in judging a particular piece of art if you're holding one of its fundamental qualities as your basis, however, with Summoning their idiosyncrasy of songwriting and lyricism sets them apart (away - not completely detached-tho). I don't know man but when I listen to Viking and epic metal bands like Summoning, Windir, Falkenbach, Thyrfing, Månegarm, Amon Amarth (etc) (check those out, by the way!) I feel incredibly uplifted, their music warms my day like no other. I agree that there are some song that can get gloomy or melancholic but you also have tracks like 'Land of The Dead'.. which are sooo epic, damn ridiculous, would even pay to hear it playing on the next Hobbit's filmcredits (if I could).

Tolkien's world is one of constant struggle between darkness & light -- tales that are immersive, majestic and epic in all the senses one can truly image - an universal pool in which you drown in. I think that as far as establishing atmospheres go Summoning does an excellent job capturing misty mountains, dark palaces, and mysterious forests from LOR; their work is environmentally fantastic in my opinion. [But] As you said, sometimes there's something missing - sometimes their focus on an specifically obscure spectrum of Tolkien's universe can diminish the enjoyment one gets, especially for those who def. appreciate both of its sides.

Life takes on a whole new look. I much prefer the academic life. I really like the flexibility, and the every day challenge. If you don't like a particular class, you'll only have it for another 3 months and then you get a whole new set of classes. I particularly don't like having a full time job, because it can easily become drudgery. But it's one of those things.. gotta eat to live, gotta have a job to eat.

The Ultimatum box set is awesome had it for a few months. Now I've got the special version of it and I basically had to snipe roxxrecords webpage right when it was released for preorder, I have #7 of 100. It comes with Puppet of Destruction, a live dvd with like 3 full concerts, heart of metal (which has new tracks and greatest hits/mixes), another cd with other mixes. Photos of each member autographed and since I got a special box mine came with a special sticker autographed by Scott Waters, 2 patches and some picks. The new songs are great, I enjoy them, especially Hook Line and Sinker, you can grab that Heart of Metal cd off Roxx websites and that will get you all the new songs. http://i.imgur.com/IRwAn.jpg Here's what the box looked like new.

That's cool blud, welll..if you can't wait for Summoning's new album (I honestly can't haha), check this out: http://caladanbrood.bandcamp.com/album/echoes-of-battle. Fantastic record, vivid in its usage of Tolkien imagery; one could argue that they are a summoning rip-off but who caress.... They rule, and HARD

Yeah I've got about 10 right now. I'm looking at a vinyl called Low & Behold that supposedly is this project with Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 and Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, sounds like something worth getting.

Exactly. whoa whoa Cormorant + Decoder, awesome! That Decoder record is one of my absolute favorites in modern metalcore. Very unique album, with its sludgy guitars and fragile vocals that evoke a mysterious, sad, mellowed atmosphere. The contrast they manged to achieve between those styles is majestic, when I first heard it I was actually actually surprised as most Rise bands are either mediocre/omegawful 'post-hardcore' bands or secular generic deathcore bands haha. Love that artwork also [........] Hmmmm, guess I'll have to jam some He is Legend/MATSOD tomorrow [:!

Heyo! I listened to Red's `Release The Panic´and my experience turned out to be better than I formerly expected. At first I didn't paid much attention to the mayor lack of stringed instruments, to be honest, but as the album progressed and I realized how despotic this characteristic was it became an increasingly annoying drawback to my experience. Well, besides some cringe-worthy moments (particularly on tracks that delved into this tough-guy-nu/metal sort of persona) -the album, for what it is, can be considered a top-quality alternative rock/metal affair. However, looking back at past outings and remembering how excellent and distinct their sound was, how those orchestrations arguably provided them with idiosyncrasy in an abundantly derivative scene makes me feel bad. This new direction(market) in which they've deliberately stepped in might draw new fans to their music, but well.... you know, t's a shame.

I listened to it 3 or 4 times at work yesterday, but left my mp3 player in my desk, so i can't scrobble it. Now I'm hesitant to listen to anything at home, because I don't know if the scrobbles will get all messed up because of different times. BUT I think it's really good. I need to listen to it when I'm not trying to read so I can actually hear the lyrics. I got the deluxe edition, which has 5 bonus tracks, including some remixes of previous songs. I like it and I think I'll get a lot of listens out of it. Just wish their concert in January had better sound quality!

Thanks man, that link is helpful if not for that I might use that coupon code to buy some vinyl on Facedown. Speaking of that there's something I wanted to show you, two awesome things I grabbed these past few weeks, one is autographed ;) http://imgur.com/a/rCn2J. Other than that, did you see the Solamors kickstarter page? Pretty slick man. I'm down for supporting anything Alethian and Jason Wisdom is in, says hope to have it out by May! As I Lay Dying, The Chariot, For Today and Devil Wears Prada is playing here next month so I'm hyped for that show. Uhh what else... just waiting for some good stuff to come out this year, Hope for the Dying sounds promising.

I think Norma Jean and The Chariot are some really cool bands (even though i don't know/remember most of their material), but I was hoping for something more experimental, if you know what I mean

Hey Matthew, could you recommend me some bands that use dissonance? I'm not sure if you're a fan of that (even though I suppose you like BTA's The Time Bender haha) but if you are, you should check Iwrestledabearonce (it's mathcore/experimental) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OsOzrApkvA and pretty much any song of Gallows' Orchestra of Wolves (hardcore punk)

Hello Matthew! Sorry I haven't commented you since you last posted. I've been quite busy with life at university! I haven't gotten the chance to listen to O Wretched Man just yet, but I want to make that a priority this week. Thank you so much for answering my question on As Hell Retreats. It's a shame that they broke up. Oh well, at least we have the music to last us an eternity! I will have to look more into Ferium, too. It appears that I should like them right off the bat! They seem to be right up my alley! I will have to tell you more when I get down to it. I hope to be more thorough in the near future. I want to tell you everything in detail when the time comes. Thank you for all your help up to this point. You have done me a lot of good, Matthew, and I hope to have it last! :D

I believe it was an intentional decision, but oh then-selling out-.... that's up to them. I've heard about Maylene and the Sons of Disaster in the past but never bothered a listen, might give them a try post-nextweek because I'm taking a short break- a 'beachcation' hehe. But oka, I'll surely tell you my thoughts by the time I finish listening ah. Here's a personal rec for ya: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part. Breathtakingly beautiful... that's all I can say [:

I really enjoyed it. I'm not really a fan of the kind of music they play but they're really catchy and I also love the lyrics. "God, Drugs & Sex" is a beautiful ending. I Bought tickets to see them with Dashboard Confessional (I think this band is too repetitive but oh well) in March

Concerning divorces - that's very smart of you to notice this thing cause - this was all about that time, the end of the 19th century in Russia). People were obsessed with heroes you know, with some pictures of nobility which meant not only your class, state, position in the society, it meant for people of that time - to be an ideal image of moral standarts, particular moral standarts existing at that time... This notions like - honour, dignity - this features were the most important in these times... But Tolstoy described the present time when he was writting the novel - it was the end of the 19th century, the time when all these features seemed to start to loose their value... Despite this people were still chasing this notions, it was important not to loose your dignity, not to fall in the eyes of other people, but what was even more important - in the eyes of themselves. But still all these features depends only on people's opinion, that's all))

Hy Matt, my friend!!!)) Sorry for so late response just didn't have enough time))) That's great that you've finished reading this novel)) Man i'm impressed you read very fast, this novel is pretty big i guess) But i'm realy not a very fast reader so.. haha)) Concerning your attitude - this was very interesting to me (sorry for using such a mediocre word but i can't recollect something better in my mind, English is so full of synonymes - just kidding) to know you impression of this novel and especially - Anna cause... You know she represents this kind of a Russian woman with her soul full of contradictions and at the same time - the entirly decisive brave heart. Although she comitted suicide practically thinking ONLY about herself, but Tolstoy i'm sure didn't want to create an image for us - readers - to judge her... Tolstoy is one of the authors that wants us to put ourselfs on the place of another human being, other character portrayed in a novel... At least that's my thoughts))
