I definitely appreciate the unique approach Nachtmystium takes on BM. Actually, there was another metal group was big on the saxophone, too. Pan.Thy.Monium, a Dan Swanö project from the early 90s, incorporated the saxophone and other unconventional instrumentation. That group was one of my workplace favorites many years ago, but mainly for its weird factor and because it had the "clear-the-room" effect, even for some metalheads. XD Lastly, I totally agree that Funeral Mist is getting way too much flak for their new material. So far, the new release is fine to my ears. Sure, it's different. But I would probably be more inclined to complain if they kept the material the same for each release...

And while we're on the topic of new releases, what do you think of the new Peste Noire? I'm still a little conflicted on how I feel about it. Musically, I enjoy it, but the vocals kind of bother me. I'll have to give it another spin in the player...

Agreed. Over-the-top intensity like this is always welcome to my ears. By the time the album queued to "The Unbearable Filth Of The Soul," I knew I loved this album. :D

Euro rates are totally ridiculous. I cringed when I sent the funds, but I wanted to grab the LE LP before it sold out. :-/

You know, I felt the same way about the instrumental pieces on that LP: soooo much more satisfying than the similar droney/ambient Urfaust pieces. The last track in particular is a definitely favorite, as far as instrumental tracks go. I loop it often... However, I must give credit to the neoclassical-style pieces and samples that Urfaust pull off. No other black metal group creates such dramatic and atmospheric sounds, and with such class. Anyway, back to Gauhaert.... I'm glad you enjoyed the album! :D

Indeed. Everything those two Urfaust-ers involve themselves in turns out to be incredible, to my tastes anyway. Yeah, this Absu show was a little pricey, and because they play fairly frequently around the States, I figured it was worth waiting for a better line-up and/or price....

Oh, I had been meaning to ask if you have checked out the Urfaust side project called Gauhaert. It's reminiscent of "Geist Ist Teufel"-era Urfaust. If you haven't already heard it, I recommend trying to hunt down a copy. :)

Wow. The show was incredible. All the bands on the bill were fantastic, but Akitsa was truly incredible. I didn't think that OT was awkward on stage at all - he really warmed up after a few songs and seemed to be pretty into the music. Perhaps this was due to the small size of the stage - that usually helps band that aren't very theatrical on stage. Some asshole kept taking tons of flash-camera pictures towards the end of the set. He didn't take too kindly to that. And I can't say I blame him! :P ...............I wanted to stay for the Absu show here tomorrow, but I couldn't really justify spending the money when Glorior Belli dropped off the bill. They were actually the main reason I was going. It's good to hear the show was fun though. I've heard from a few people that Absu are great live, so I'll definitely have to catch them another time.
