First listen review.
Stiff Kittens: I've heard this one a ton of times before. The beginning sounds silly because Davey's voice had to go through quite a bit of work to get that deep, and we all know it. ;) Other than that, it's a damned good dark dance track. I love the use of the word "sanctuary". It's a great word.
Between Breaths (an XX perspective): Makes me feel like Davey and Jade have violated me in all the right ways and I'm sweaty and messy and trying to find my clothes the next day. Could I just say that I've been waiting to hear Davey say something like, "…I could make you say "please please please don't take it easy on me"…" for a long time? Ouchies. It's hot.
Snuff on Digital: Eh. It's a little awkward. You can tell Jade had a lot of fun playing with sounds, but it doesn't flow quite right. The lyrics are kind of on the silly side and suffer from lack of musical flow.
Bitter for Sweet: I've heard this one before as well and FUCK I LOVE IT. Oh yes, this is how you make people move. This is the best track on the album. (Opinion subject to change as I listen to it, of course). I'm wishing the rest of the album's sounds were as dark as this track.
Where Would You Like Them Left?: Ick. It's a mess. I was really looking forward to it because I loved the first line, "Sweetness, it's just a matter of taste." But it gets all weird like "Snuff" does, and tosses you around with no follow through.
The Fear of Being Found: I went back and forth on this one. At first I didn't like it, but I really liked when the chorus kicked in. The chorus rocks my socks. Not sure about the rest yet. I'll get back to this track. It will probably get back to me.
On A Friday: DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY! Haha, I like this one. It feels like it knows where it's going, and it's going to get you and take your clothes off and have its way with you. You'll take it and you'll like it, bitch.
The Love Letter: Yes, yes, again! This one is tasty. It's strong in sound then drifts you off then pounds you again. It's a slice of rich cake that you want to eat up.
Semiotic Love: Obviously this part of the album is the good part. I loved this one as well. It also has a strong sense of self and doesn't go meandering into "what does THIS button do?" territory.
Cities of Night: Uh. Is this supposed to be Kiss And Control (from AFI's Decemberunderground) Part II? It reuses lines and isn't very good. Listen to Kiss and Control instead, it's my favorite track. This one is not. What a pity.
Again, Again, and Again: It's okay. It didn't leave a huge impression, but I always seem to lose track of things at this point in an album. I may have more to say about this later.
Wake Up, Open the Door and Escape to the Sea: Yes, Davey, whatever you want, Davey. Good track. Very outwardly gay. Some of the songs involve girls, but this one's for a boy*. How bold. ;)
Speaking of that, one version has a cover of Blur's "Girls and Boys" which is very fitting to end the album. The other has a track called "Mute" that I enjoyed but did not have lyrics to read along with, so it hasn't registered like the rest of the album.
Overall I'm thinking it needs 9483595798439857 more plays and I would love to download the ringtone for "The Love Letter".

*yes, I realize these tracks may all just be metaphors for goodness knows what. At the moment I am taking it all at face value until something/someone changes my mind. Thanks.
