How to do your round in OMG

This is based on guides to doing a round in NAPG written by josvleeuwen and Apollyon-Nine, adapted for OMG by temujin1234.

The full game rules can be found in this thread. You should pay
particular attention to the kicking guidelines section.

Your First Champion Round
The first time you become champion, you get to carry out one round. At the moment, you are not given permission to kick other people from the group due to problems some recent new champions have had. This does not mean I have doubts about your ability to carry out the round, it is to make sure the game isn't damaged due to any misunderstanding of the rules.

1. Preparation.
When you become champion, I will create a thread for your round and send a message to the whole group linking to that thread. I will also leave you a shout with a link to the round.

  • Check what time your round finishes. First time that you do a round it may take quite a bit of your time, so make sure you know the deadline. If you are not in Britain, be aware of any time difference and take that into account. If the time limit doesn't suit you, contact me and ask for an extension. You don't have to give a detailed explanation of your personal plans, just ask for more time. Tell me how long you need so I don't just guess and then have to change it again.
  • Create a member list. Create an empty file using your favourite text editor, and go to the member page. Copy the member list into your text file and save it. The list runs from left to right and from top to bottom. You can either copy the whole list, paste it into your file and edit out everything except the names, or you can write the names in by hand. Leave 1 name on each line. Count up the names on your list (I find it useful to divide the list into groups of 5 to make this easier to see) and check the total against the count shown on the page and insert any missing names on your list. (You will lose a duty point if you miss anyone). Write " - Immune" next to your name and mine (temujin1234). Now save the file.
  • Three Day Rule checks. This takes most time out of the whole round, so prepare early. Go to the member page again, and switch into each persons profile page in turn (no need to check your own, mine or anyone who is shown as "listening" rather than "last track".). Have a look at the time their last track was played. If it is more than 48 hours ago, make a mark next to their name on your member list and save it again. Now you only have to recheck these members when you come to do the actual round.

2. Doing the round.
Some time before the deadline you will decide to do the actual round. Open up the member list you saved and head back to the member page.

  • Have a look at the time and make a note of it at the top of your member list.
  • Check if anyone has joined the group since you prepared your list and add them at the top of your list. (You will lose duty points for missing these).
  • Do your 3 day rule checks - you only need to look at the people you marked earlier and any new members you just added. Open their profile page and check if they have listened to anything since you checked before. If anyone you check has not played anything in the last 72 hours you can mark them as a kick on your list. (" - KICK, 3 day rule").
  • Now look at the last artist played by each member and check whether you can kick them or not using the kicking guidelines linked to at the top of this post. You must only look at the artist shown on the member page, no need to switch to their profiles. If you know the artist someone has played, write the artist name and kick next to their name on your list. (" - The Beatles - KICK"). If two members have the same artist as their last, kick both if you know the artist. If not, switch into both profiles and just kick the one with the latest time of playing. Mark your list " - KICK - rule 3".
  • Your round is now done. Save your list, then copy it and paste it into a PM and send it to me. I will then kick each player and notify them of this.

3. After the round
You are no longer champion, so you must leave the group and rejoin. If you don't do this, I will kick you and ask you to rejoin. You will not lose any duty points, but it is best to do so straight after the round is finished, otherwise some of the people you kicked might rejoin ahead of you.

Congratulations, you just completed your first round as champion.

Your Second and later Champion Rounds
The second time (and all subsequent times) you become champion, you will get 2 kicking rounds. You will have full kicking permission, so things will be a little different this time. You will get a 24 hour deadline for the first round and a deadline 24 hours later for the second. The second deadline stays the same regardless of what time you do the first round.

1. Preparation.
Your preparation should be exactly the same as above, except this time you will need to do it a second time for your second round. If you re-use the list from your first round, remember to update it to reflect who got kicked first time round.

2. Doing the first round.
Choose a time to do your round, and open up your member list and the member page as above.

  • Write down the time, as above.
  • Check for new members, as above.
  • 3 day rule checks, as above.
  • Check for and write down kicks, as above.
  • Select all the text in your member list, copy it and paste it into the thread for your round, then post it.
  • Return to the member page. (It is useful to use a second tab in your browser for this.) You will have noticed buttons marked "kick" next to each players name. For each player that you can kick, click on this button, then confirm that you want to kick the player in the dialog that appears. Switch to the players profile page, and leave them a shout explaining that you have kicked them from OMG and why, and ask them to rejoin the game. You must provide a link back to the group for them to follow. I copy the shout before I send the first one, so I can just paste it into the shoutbox of everyone else I kick. If you do this, remember to change the artist name if you include it.
  • Once this is done, the round is finished. You should then go to my profile page and leave a shout or PM me to let me know the round is finished. (Not doing this last step is the most common reason for people dropping duty points.)

3. Doing the second round.
This is mostly the same as the first round, except…

  • 4 - In addition to writing down which players you kick you must write down the name of the last artist being played by the new champion - the person immediately before you in the member list.

After finishing the round, you must quit the group and rejoin, as you did for your first ever round.

Misc
When I first got a champion round in one of these games, I found it useful to have a look at how previous champions presented their rounds. Make sure you pick a round where the champion got all their duty points if you want to copy :)

Some people add BBCode links to the player names, artists, kicks, etc. This is not compulsory, although it does improve the presentation of the round.

Some people write down the artist name for everyone, not just the people they kicked. Again, this is not compulsory but it can be handy for the survivors to see who they survived with, and who you might be hunting next time you have a round :)

Writing comments or the listener count for the artists is also not compulsory but can be interesting. If you want to do this, don't write so much that it clutters the round up and makes it harder to read, and don't make derogatory comments about other players and their music taste. NOTE - I have mistakenly kicked people twice recently where comments were written by the persons name. Please put all commentary at the bottom of your round.

Some experienced players change the order they post the round, do kicks and leave shouts so they can quit and rejoin before anyone they kick. This is OK, but make sure you don't miss anything out, and make sure you do the actual kicks before quitting and rejoining otherwise you will no longer have kicking permission.

This list is not the only way it is possible to do a round correctly, and some players may have variations on this, but it is simple and covers everything you need to do.

Remember, if you have any difficulties doing your round you can always shout or PM me and ask questions.

There is now software available to help do the preparation for your round, here.
