like a british-male version of Joanna Newsom...but with more talent (I think should duck now for fear of flying tomatoes).
well anyhow, I quite like the mix. :)
Windmill also has a bit of Danielson's quirky genius, I think. Stream his current album Puddle City Racing Lights.
Here's a proper music video for a track called Fit:

Cutie like Death Cab.

one of his better tracks: quick lyrics, bassy, loads of keyboard bits and a brand new recording. I'm actually quite excited about this song, it's fun to listen to and! easy to forget it's just one guy. :)

don't mean to keep making artist comparisons....

...but I swear Scott Daly of Arms and Legs is Elliott Smith reincarnated...although the math doesn't quite add up.
Since I've been on last.fm, I've noticed many solo artists wishing they could get that thing Elliott had (vocal+ instrumental+ lyrics), but until now I've not really heard any good successors. This guy has amazing layered vocal harmonies, sounding a bit like Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie on the song
Alice.
And the lyrics! oh the lyrics, paired with excellent guitarwork making him an original artist in his own right. With his self-titled album being fully streamable, there's no reason not to go listen. yarr.

The A to Z of Mathematics
i like the artist description... tells me nothing about him, yet quite a lot actually.
here, listen to this as you read
Harbour
In the North of the North of England there is a small rural market town. It is a quiet, slow moving town; half day opening on a Wednesday, that kind of place. There is an excellent library though, with a surprisingly good audio section. It was here that Robert Edwards was drawn. Books and music and music and books - sometimes at the same time.
After a few years of reading, listening and watching, Edwards decided it was time for the city. It didn't hurt that the nearest city had exemplary musical pedigree. After overcoming his initial disorientation Edwards ventured out from his rented accommodation and discovered...bigger libraries! And music shops and book shops - you could keep the music and books and nobody stamped them. And do you know what? They were even open on Wednesday afternoons.
It was around this time that a plan began to take shape. Edwards had written songs in the small market town and now he had written songs in the city. Some of the songs were like a whisper and some were like shadows, but there were words and there were melodies and they were complete. He played them over and over and got to know them inside out. Then he made a phone call. Settling down in the corner of his bedroom with a guitar and a borrowed creaky keyboard he performed the songs. We pressed record and play.

I have many many listens on this here site, just doesn't really seem like it when you glance at my top artist counts. that is, however, until you realize I mostly just listen to the myriad radio stations available -I'm opposed to the idea of simply putting albums on repeat for hours.
so I've listened to most of my friends' radio, and they are pretty wonderful. but recently I've found a station which I like even more than my own, I've been listening to it all the time the last couple of weeks.
props to stoffen the photographer --> check it out right here. -
headphones required.

I've started a new tag: headphones required.
there are some songs that you simply must listen to really close to your ears. so many melodies and harmonies are lost with normal listening through stereo speakers, none of this across the room jazz. ha.
there's at least one other person who's also used this tag so far, let's make it grow. :) brilliant example:
when the words won't come

he sounds like male vox & backup girl in the same song!

Roch is the only one singing vocals on 6+ of his albums
--except those on canada for beginners by graeme kennedy, aptly titled.
take a listen; he has an amazing range...
man of science
how did we get here?
we flew through the flames
though crash-landing planes
and fear
and why are we alive
from the flock we were picked
we were marked to survive
but why?
we've been here so long
but no-one sees anything wrong
no-one is asking the questions
i want to hear
i am so lost
