Great - I have a database of all the gigs I have gone to over the last 3-4 years, I suppose I can start to tag the old ones BUT you know that somewhere they have this old information archived. And you know this was a last.fm total F-up.

This was my response: Thanks for the quick response. A couple of points: 1. The venue is the Middle East, not the middle earth. I'm sure that's just a mixup, but just wanted to make clear for future reference. :) 2. There are about 900 past events that are now incorrect. I don't think anyone wants to volunteer to flag these by hand, especially when there are a handful of loyal Last.fm fans who have volunteered tens or possibly hundreds of hours adding those very events in by hand originally. The Boston Last.fm users are a great group, but we can't really keep working at odds with the people at Last.fm who are *also* trying to do the best job they can. Not sure what we can set up with communication, but it'd be great to have a more direct line to speak with people. [cont]

Also, I specifically tried to list a show about ten minutes ago at the Downstairs and the only hit that came up was the generic Middle East listing. I don't want to have to go into the venue to ensure that I'm at the right place. I should be able to search "Middle East" and have options come up. In fact, why does the generic Middle East even come up as a viable venue?

Who fucked up the Middle East venues? God, I'm so angry right now, and it's not even on behalf of myself. There were so many additions and amendments and general COMMUNITY on the old pages and now they're gone. If it was an accident, fine, but don't pretend nothing happened.

Holy crap, I didn't even notice that all past events were merged. That is awful. I've spent *a lot* of time listing events at these places and rectifying ones that were incorrect, ever since this whole Last.fm events thing started in beta; in fact I'm pretty sure I created most of the Boston/Cambridge venue listings here. I did notice last night that a Last.fm staffer had changed the description of this generic listing to something less helpful than mine. What a pain.

Yeah I don't know who keeps adding this generic "Middle East" listing, but I don't think anything can be done to prevent it. On a case-by-case basis you just have to create a duplicate event at the correct venue (Up or Down) and then flag the generic one as being redundant.
